Real Relief From Pain That's Been Holding You Back

You’ve been dealing with this long enough. The knee that makes stairs feel impossible. The back pain that wakes you up at night. The balance issues that have you second-guessing every step.

Maybe you’ve tried rest, ice, over-the-counter meds. Maybe you’ve even been to other providers who spent ten minutes with you before moving on to the next patient. You’re not looking for temporary relief or cookie-cutter protocols—you need someone who actually listens and builds a plan around your body, your life, and what you’re trying to get back to.

That’s what happens here. You work with a licensed physical therapist who takes the time to understand what’s not working, why it’s happening, and how to fix it. Whether it’s joint pain treatment, stroke rehabilitation, or fall prevention, the focus stays on you—your progress, your comfort, your timeline.

Trusted Physical Therapist in Hicksville, NY

We've Been Doing This a Long Time

We’ve been serving Hicksville and the surrounding Long Island communities for years, with locations in Smithtown and Speonk. We’re not a franchise or a revolving door of therapists—we’re a locally established practice built on repeat patients, referrals, and results.

Our team includes licensed professionals who speak Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Spanish, and Marathi. That matters in a place as diverse as Hicksville. You shouldn’t have to struggle to explain what hurts or what you’re afraid of.

We also take the administrative side seriously. Every profile is verified, every staff member is credentialed, and your information is handled with the kind of care you’d expect from a healthcare provider. No surprises, no runaround.

How Physical Therapy Works in Hicksville

Here's What Actually Happens During Treatment

Your first visit starts with a full evaluation. We’re talking about your injury or condition, your medical history, what makes it worse, what makes it better, and what you’ve already tried. Then we assess your movement—how you walk, bend, balance, and bear weight. This isn’t a five-minute chat. It’s a real assessment.

From there, we build a treatment plan. That might include therapeutic exercise, gait training, balance and proprioceptive training, resistance and strength training, or neuromuscular re-education. If you’re recovering from surgery or a stroke, we adjust the approach to meet you where you are.

Sessions are one-on-one. You’re not splitting time with three other patients while your therapist bounces between tables. You get the full session, the full attention, and the full benefit of working with someone who knows your case. As you improve, we progress the plan. When you’re ready, we help you transition back to normal life—and give you the tools to stay strong and avoid re-injury.

About Medcare Therapy Services

Therapy Services We Offer in Hicksville

We Treat the Issues That Actually Affect Your Life

Falls are a real concern in this area. About 26% of New York adults over 65 report experiencing a fall, and many of those happen at home. Our fall prevention program focuses on balance training, gait training, and strength work that reduces your risk and builds your confidence. You shouldn’t be afraid to walk your dog or check the mail.

We also treat stroke rehabilitation and neurological rehabilitation for patients recovering from serious medical events. Relearning movement is hard. It takes patience, repetition, and someone who understands the process. We work with you at your pace, helping you regain as much function and independence as possible.

For joint pain, pre and post surgery rehabilitation, and injury rehabilitation, we use hands-on techniques combined with therapeutic exercise to reduce pain and restore mobility. If you’re an athlete dealing with a setback, we help you return to your sport safely. If you’re a senior who just wants to keep gardening or playing with your grandkids, we help you do that too.

We also offer occupational therapy and in-home physical therapy for patients who can’t easily travel. We bring the care to you.

How long does physical therapy take to start working?

Most people notice some improvement within the first two to three weeks, but that depends on your condition, how long you’ve had it, and how consistently you’re doing your exercises. Acute injuries—like a sprained ankle or post-surgery recovery—tend to respond faster than chronic issues like arthritis or long-term back pain.

The key is consistency. If you’re coming to sessions and following through with your home program, you’re going to see progress. If you’re skipping exercises or only showing up when it’s convenient, it’s going to take longer.

We track your progress at every visit. Range of motion, strength, pain levels, balance—we measure it so you can see the difference. Some weeks you’ll feel a big shift. Other weeks it’s slower. That’s normal. Recovery isn’t always linear, but it is cumulative.

Most insurance plans cover physical therapy, but your specific coverage depends on your plan, your deductible, and whether you need a referral. Some plans cover a set number of visits per year. Others require prior authorization for certain conditions.

We recommend calling your insurance company before your first visit and asking a few questions: Do I need a referral? How many visits are covered? What’s my copay or coinsurance? Is this provider in-network? That gives you a clear picture of what to expect.

We also handle billing and verification on our end, so you’re not left guessing. If there’s an issue with coverage, we’ll let you know upfront. No one likes surprise bills, and we do our best to keep things transparent from the start.

Wear something comfortable that lets you move. Loose athletic shorts or pants, a T-shirt, and sneakers are ideal. If we’re treating your shoulder or upper back, a tank top or something with straps makes it easier for us to assess and work on the area.

Avoid jeans, dress shoes, or anything restrictive. You’ll be doing exercises, stretches, and movement assessments, so you want to be able to bend, squat, and reach without your clothes getting in the way.

If you’re coming straight from work or another appointment and can’t change beforehand, that’s fine—just bring a change of clothes and you can switch when you get here. We have a private area where you can get ready.

Yes. Balance problems are one of the most common reasons people come to us, especially older adults who’ve had a close call or an actual fall. The good news is that balance can be trained. It’s not something you either have or don’t have—it’s a skill that improves with the right exercises.

We use balance and proprioceptive training to help your body relearn how to stabilize itself. That includes standing exercises, weight shifts, single-leg work, and gait training to improve how you walk. We also address strength, because weak hips and legs make it harder to catch yourself if you start to tip.

Falls are a leading cause of injury for seniors in New York, and many of them are preventable. If you’ve noticed yourself feeling unsteady, grabbing onto furniture more often, or avoiding certain activities because you don’t feel stable, that’s a sign it’s time to address it. Waiting only increases the risk.

In New York, you can see a physical therapist without a referral for up to 10 visits or 30 days, whichever comes first. After that, you’ll need a prescription from a doctor to continue treatment. This is called direct access, and it’s designed to get you care faster without waiting for a doctor’s appointment first.

That said, some insurance companies still require a referral even if the state doesn’t. It depends on your plan. If you’re unsure, call your insurance provider and ask whether they require a referral for physical therapy.

If you do need a referral and don’t have one yet, we can coordinate with your doctor’s office to get that handled. We’re used to navigating this process and can walk you through it so there’s no delay in starting your treatment.

Physical therapy focuses on improving movement, strength, balance, and mobility. If you’re dealing with pain, recovering from an injury, or trying to walk better, that’s typically physical therapy. We work on the mechanics of how your body moves and functions.

Occupational therapy focuses on helping you perform daily activities—things like dressing, cooking, bathing, or using your hands for fine motor tasks. If you’ve had a stroke and need to relearn how to button a shirt or hold a fork, that’s where occupational therapy comes in.

There’s overlap, and sometimes people benefit from both. We offer both services, and if we think you’d benefit from seeing an occupational therapist in addition to physical therapy, we’ll let you know. The goal is always the same: help you get back to living your life with as much independence and confidence as possible.
